Welcome
to the Augusta Archive
One of the advantages of an electronic archive is that it can be adapted to
more than one purpose. The Augusta Archive was developed from the
general research archive described in
The Valley of the Shadow Research Report . Installed at the Woodrow
Wilson Birthplace Museum in Staunton, Virginia, the Augusta Archive
offers considerably more detail for one
place and for a shorter period of time than does the research report.
Eventually this level of detail will
be available for two communities on opposite sides of the Civil War for the
years between 1850 and 1880.
The Archive does not require any
prior knowledge of computers or of history. By using the mouse to point
and click, you simply move through the screens that appear before you.
There is much more in the Archive than you can see in one visit.
Just follow your intuition and interests.
You may always go back to pages you have already seen by clicking
the "Back" button at the bottom of the screen. You may listen to
narration by clicking on the "narration" button. You can get
general help by clicking on the help button at the bottom of the
screen. Feel free to ask for help from the Wilson Birthplace staff.
