The Augusta Archive allows you to explore the world into which Woodrow Wilson was born in the late 1850s. By assembling what you find in this archive, you will be able to form a composite picture of a person, a family, a neighborhood, or a group.
Each source in the archive is symbolized by a small picture or "icon" at the top of each page. When you click on the icon, a page will come up telling you about the source and giving an example of how it might be searched. The first set of source icons will take you to newspapers, government records, maps, diaries and letters, and Civil War rosters; other icons turn the recorded narration on or off, provide background information on Augusta County in this period, and offer help.
You may go to the Main Archive page from any other page by clicking on
the red ball symbol (
).
There, you will find a gateway to all the sources.
If you would like to explore on your own, please choose a source icon and begin. If you would like to see an example of a completed search, please click on the word "example" in blue.
By filling out one of the forms on the table next to you, you can record each piece of information to create a dossier on anyone you may care to search for. If you have constructed a series of connections in which others might be interested, we will be happy to scan it into the archive for others to use.
The Recent Acquisition archive will contain images of letters, diaries, business records, photographs, church records, scanned-in forms, or anything else that visitors have contributed to the archive. Every additional piece of information about Augusta County in these years can help round out the picture, so please contribute anything you can.
