Simon Simple at "Uncle Tom's Cabin"

Simon Simple, drawn by Ed Carey, was a popular strip for about ten years at the start of the 20th century. He was invariably accompanied on his misadventures by Mose, the smaller blackface figure in the strip below, titled "Simon Gets a Front Seat at 'Uncle Tom's Cabin.'" The strip was syndicated the T. C. McClure Syndicate. One interesting suggestion in this account of a "Tom Show" is that smalling touring companies might have enlarged their promotional parades by "hiring" locals to march for free passes to the show.
