John Stevens Cabot Abbott (1805-1877) was a prolific 19th century American writer. Most of his books dealt with recent European and American history, but he also wrote several domestic manuals, including the companion volumes from which these illustrations were drawn. The Mother and The Child At Home were first published in 1833, and reprinted several times through 1852, when the pictures -- 20 for The Mother (the first twenty at left) and 26 for The Child -- were added.
