Emily Fenichel received NEH grant

April 9, 2020

Emily Fenichel, a former graduate researcher on the Leonardo da Vinci & His Treatise on Painting project, led by IATH Fellow Francesca Fiorani, has been awarded $231,000 by the NEH’s Humanities Collections and Reference Resources program for a new ambitious digital project, one of 32 awarded in 2020 and the only one for the state of Florida. Her project, The Arquin Slide Collection Digitization Project: Preserving the Heritage of Latin America, will catalog and digitize more than 25,000 slides by Florence Arquin. Arquin (1900-1974) was a painter, photographer, writer, and critic, and had a deep understanding of Latin American studies, based on her extensive travels and studies in Latin America. This collection will provide access to valuable and unique documentation of 1940s and 1950s Latin American and Caribbean heritage and culture, and will be published through Florida Atlantic University. Dr. Fenichel is an Assistant Professor of Visual Arts and Art History at FAU.
